Earlier in January, a media report suggested that Samsung's Galaxy S24 series, slated for a Q1 2024 launch, would consist of only two models - the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra, implying the exclusion of the Galaxy S24+. However, recent disclosures challenge this narrative, indicating that the S24 series will, much like its S23 predecessor, feature the standard, Plus, and Ultra variants.
Information from SamMobile and GalaxyClub posits that Samsung has codenamed the Galaxy S24 series as "Muse". With three distinct codenames - Muse 1, Muse 2, and Muse 3, it implies that the S24 lineup will, indeed, accommodate a Plus version.
Muse 3 corresponds to the codename for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which suggests that Muse 1 and Muse 2 might represent the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+, respectively. Moreover, the sources reinforced that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will boast a telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, supplanting the 3x telephoto lens found in the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Back in April, it was reported that Samsung plans to replace the S24 Ultra's 3x telephoto lens with a single variable folded telephoto boasting a 3-10x zoom. This, however, awaits further substantiation. Given that the S24 series' unveiling is still more than half a year away, we can anticipate more information surfacing about the lineup in the upcoming months.
The Galaxy S series has typically featured three models since the launch of the Galaxy S20: a standard model, a Plus variant, and the superior Ultra model. We anticipate this pattern to persist in 2024 with the expected release of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra.
There has, however, been a circulating rumor, initiated by a relatively lesser-known source, suggesting Samsung might eliminate the Galaxy S24 Plus. This notion, despite being rejected by other more credible sources, could hold some truth given that the Plus variant usually records the lowest sales in the series. But for the moment, our belief aligns with Samsung retaining its established approach of releasing three Galaxy S24 models.
Samsung revamped the Galaxy S series' appearance for the first time in two years in 2023. Currently, all devices in the line share a distinct resemblance, showcasing squared-off edges, rear camera lens cutouts, and parallel color options.
We're skeptical that Samsung will institute any major transformations in 2024. While minor adjustments are plausible, Samsung typically does not implement drastic design alterations annually. Until trustworthy renders emerge, we'll operate under the assumption that the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra will bear a close resemblance to their S23 predecessors.
